Satisfy both your eBook audience and traditional print audience in one stop!

The eBook+Printed Book package includes the two standard eBook formats (for the Kindle, iPad and Nook) as well as printed softcover books. By creating the eBook format first, and then printing from that format, you have several advantages:

  • Design cost is reduced. The formatting limitations of the eBook format take significantly less time than the unlimited options available for print design. The same design works for both eBook and print.
  • Publishing time is quicker. An eBook format is faster to develop and get into the online stores, no wait for printing or delivery. Printed books would follow.
  • More choices for buyers. An eBook format appeals to a growing group and gives you a foothold in an emerging market. Alternatively, many still prefer the printed format and not everyone owns an eReader device.
  • Sales Flexibility. The online bookselling powerhouses can effectively sell your ebook files. However, for person-to-person sales, it may be easier to sell a printed book rather than a digital file.

The eBooks + Print Books Package gives you the best of both worlds: the ease and speed of online eBook sales with the permanence and readability of printed books, helping you reach emerging markets.

EBook File Formats

  • EPUB format. This is the format for the Apple iPad, Barnes and Noble Nook, Sony Reader, and others. An EPUB format can be read on most ereaders, and many smart phones. This format has the advantage of color and interactivity like video and audio, but the disadvantage of a transmission display that is hard on the eyes.
  • MOBI format – This is the format used by the Amazon Kindle. Presently, the format has the disadvantage of not suporrting color, interactivity or more than a single typeface. However, it has the advantage of better device readability with its e-ink display, as well as the powerhouse bookselling and distribution venue known as Amazon.

Why not use a PDF? - Adobe’s Portable Document Format, is a file format readable by most computers, printers and hand-held e-readers. This is the only format that will retain a complex text design. While this promotes readability in print, the same rules do not apply to ebooks, where the function is more important than the form.

What does it cost?

The eBooks + Printed Books package includes:

  • ePub file. Does not include uploading.
  • mobi file. Does not include uploading.
  • Printed softcover books: Perfect bound, printed in digital black and white on standard 60# Husky offset interior paper, and a 12 pt. coated cover stock with gloss lamination.

Below is sample pricing. Other printed book quantities, sizes and word counts are available, contact us for additional information and pricing.

About your printed books:

The above pricing is based on your printed books having a trim size of 5.5x8.5". Page count cannot be accurately determined until the book is formatted. As a general rule, figure 300 words per page for a 5.5x8.5" book. For example, if your manuscript contains 48,000 words, divide 48,000 by 300, for approximately 160 pages. Again, this is only an approximate calculation and cannot be accurately determined until the book is formatted.

Overruns may result, which means that the final quantity of books could be higher than ordered, a maximum of 10% higher. Overruns are priced at cost, design costs are excluded. Shipping costs are not included and are calculated once the final count and weight are determined. Color printing on interior pages and matte lamination on the cover are available at extra cost.

Where and how do I sell my eBook files?

If you are selling through online booksellers, you will need to purchase an ISBN for each edition (one each for print, ePub and .mobi) Printed books would also require a barcode on the back cover.

  • Amazon.com is the place to sell your Kindle files (they do not sell ePub files). Go to: Amazon KDP. Amazon will require that you submit information on payment, publishing and digital rights. They will take 30% of the profit.
  • BarnesandNoble.com can sell your ePub file for the Nook. Go to: Pubit! They will take 35-40% of the profit, depending on the price for the book.
  • iBookstore by Apple can sell your ePub for the iPad. However, they have quite stringent submission requirements. They also require sales exclusivity, so you would only be able to sell the ePub version through them for a contracted amount of time. Go to: itunesconnect. They will take 30% of the profit, and won't send money to you until a certain number of sales have been made. They require that you obtain an Apple ID and an IRS Tax ID.
  • Your own website. After purchasing from your website (perhaps using PayPal), you could email the file directly to the purchaser. The purchaser can then save the eBook format (either mobi or ePub) directly to their device. You keep 100% of the profit!
