When your book is finished and in your hand, how will you get it into the marketplace? In addition to our publication Marketing Tips.pdf, registering with the following organizations will help you in your efforts.
Copyright
To copyright your book, place a notice on the copyright page. Either the word copyright and/or the copyright symbol must appear along with the year of first publication and the name of the copyright owner, such as "Copyright 2008, Bill Shakespeare, All rights reserved." You may then elaborate on the all rights reserved phrase if you wish. Check other books for accepted variations.
After your book is printed, you may register your copyright by sending the following items to the U.S. Copyright Office: Form TX, a $45 fee and two copies of your book (one if it is not for sale). Registering your work officially recognizes you as the copyright holder. Although recommended, it is not absolutely necessary to register your work. Copyright is secured automatically when the work is created. Registration strengthens your legal position. More information on this subject is available at www.copyright.gov.

Library of Congress Control Number (PCN)
These numbers are issued prior to publication, and are reserved for books intended for distribution to libraries. The number is called the Preassigned Control Number (PCN) and may be requested by submitting a one-page application to the Library of Congress. The number is then printed on the copyright page of your book, preceded by the phrase, Library of Congress Control Number. Once the book is published, one complimentary copy is sent to the Library of Congress.
There are no fees for participating in the PCN program. If you believe your work would be appropriate for libraries, request a PCN. Participation sometimes results in orders for your book from sources who would not have known about it otherwise.
For more information, guidelines about what books qualify, instructions and PCN forms, visit their website.
ISBN
If you plan to sell your book in a bookstore, you will probably need to obtain an ISBN (International Standard Book Number). Your ISBN converted into a bar code is used by bookstores to order and track titles. If you would like, we can provide a bar code of your ISBN for $25.00.
R.R. Bowker Company issues these numbers, which they also publish in a reference manual Books In Print. Like the Library of Congress Control Number, the ISBN must be obtained prior to publication.
The charge for a block of ten numbers can range from $275.00 to $400.00, depending on the processing method you choose. Make sure to allow 15 days to process your request if you choose the slowest, least expensive processing method. You cannot purchase less than ten numbers at a time.
The best information and most current fees and forms can be found on their website. They prefer that you use their website to access forms and to pay by credit card. You can also use their fax number to send a request for a form.
