 As a cost-saving alternative to custom design, we offer templates. Each template is for the whole book, including both the text and cover design. It is available in three sizes, 5.25x8.25, 5.5x8.5 or 6x9. The text layout is a traditional style, and is available in small, medium and large type sizes. Photos can also be added at additional cost. Template text design is $100 for the first 64 pages and 90 cents thereafter.
For the cover we offer 10 different color selections, a full color picture for the front and back. Back cover text is also included and a barcode if you have an ISBN. Template cover design is $135.
We can use manuscripts from just about any wordprocessing program, including MSWord, Wordperfect, Microsoft Publisher and more! Template text is not for complex books with footnotes, charts, extensive photos, subchapters, or extensive front or back matter, etc.

Template Covers
The cover design is traditional and time-proven. You can make it your own by choosing a color and adding an image. We've made it simple to put together your template cover. All we need is your:
 book title, subtitle (if you have one), and author name
Front Cover photo or image: We can place any image you would like on the front cover: either a photo, an artist work or a graphic. Send us the original photo or an image file on disk.
Back cover photo of author: If you have an author photo, send us the original photo or an image file on disk.
Barcode (ISBN): If you have purchased an ISBN, a barcode is included in the price of the template design. Double-check the ISBN number that you provide us, and let us know what the price is, or if no price should be shown.
Back cover copy: Space is available for about 300 words of text on the back, including something about the book and about the author. For information on what to write on the back cover, see Back Cover Details in the Guidelines section of our website.
Template Text
The text layout is based on traditional book design principles that emphasize readability. Template text is set in the typeface "Minion Pro". It also comes in pages sizes of 5.25x8.25, 5.5x8.5 or 6x9. We offer three sizes of type:
Space Saver: 10 point 15 point leading
Optimum: 11 point 16 point leading
Large Type: 12 point 17 point leading
Preparing Your Manuscript
Your Software: To start, we will need a text file of your book saved to a computer disk (floppy, zip, CD or DVD). It is best to have the whole book saved as a single file, with no graphics or photos included, we will add those later.
Editing: Although changes can be made after the layout process is complete, it is much more cost effective to do all editing and spell checking before sending us your disk.
Photographs and Images
You can send scanned images or digital camera images (saved on a disk) or we can scan from your originals. To help us know where each photo and caption belongs in the book, number the photo and caption with a corresponding number. It also helps to have a list of the photographs and where they should appear.

Template Book Steps
1. Use our Instant Quote to view a price and print a quote and checklist.
2. Mail us the printed quote, completed checklist along with a deposit (of half down) and your files.
3. Upon receipt, we will contact you to get the design process started. The design process takes 1-3 weeks.
4. We will use a basic cover and/or text template to design your text in Adobe Indesign.
5. The design will be mailed to you as a printed proof copy for review.
6. Once you have approved the book for printing, the production process starts.
